Nathalie Emmanuel

Nathalie Joanne Emmanuel was born on March 2, 1989. Emmanuel began her acting career with theatre in late 1990s. Later she was offered roles in numerous West End productions including The Lion King. Her birthplace was Southend-on-Sea in Essex, England, on March 2 1989. Her mother is Dominican. Her dad is half-Saint Lucian, half English. Her older brother is also a member of the family. Emmanuel recalled how her mom was the first to discover her interest in acting when she was a student at St Hilda's School. It was closed in 2014. The Westcliff High School For Girls grammar school was the next to follow. In an interview for The New York Daily News, she revealed, "When my mom was three, she would always be the center of attention, so she decided that maybe I could channel her energy properly. So I began taking acting, singing, and dance classes." At the age of 10 she portrayed the role of Young Nala in the West End's version of The Lion King. Then, she was cast as Missandei in HBO's fantasy drama series Game of Thrones. She told Jimmy Kimmel that she learned about the character while working as an assistant in the clothing store. Emmanuel was appointed a regular cast member in 2015 after she won the role. Missandei was the only female who was of color to be part of the cast. Her death scene while she was in chains wasn't popular among viewers. Emmanuel later said to The Guardian that the reaction to the death of Missandei was robust because she was the one. I'm convinced that many of the people who felt disenfranchised or marginalized were influenced by her or felt that they were represented by her particularly women of colour. The people were devastated when she passed away and in such a tragic way. That's how they're going to do the only woman of color.
